Morehead State welcomes author Dr. Gary Gregg for McBrayer Presidential Lecture Series

Headshot of Dr. Gary Gregg.Morehead State University will once again bring a notable author, editor and scholar to campus to discuss American history and government with the campus and surrounding community.

As part of MSU's America 250 celebration, the McBrayer Presidential Lecture Series welcomes Dr. Gary Gregg at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, in Ballroom A of the Adron Doran University Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Gregg is the Mitch McConnell Chair in Leadership at the University of Louisville, director of the McConnell Center and author or editor of numerous books on American history, leadership and government. Drawing on decades of scholarship as an award-winning political scientist and expert on the U.S. presidency, Gregg will discuss his latest book, "George Washington: Citizen, Soldier, Statesman." He will explore the enduring influence of the presidency in American life while examining the leadership, character and legacy of George Washington, the nation's first president.

The McBrayer Presidential Lecture Series brings nationally recognized scholars, historians and public leaders to campus. The lecture series is named in honor and in memory of MSU alum W. Terry McBrayer (Class of 1959), a Lexington attorney, lobbyist and former politician whose generous gift supports both the lecture series and student scholarships. The McBrayer Presidential Lecture Series recently welcomed Kentucky historian, professor emeritus of history and retired dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences at Morehead State, Dr. John Kleber, as one of several events highlighting America 250 through the rest of the year.

"America 250 gives us a really unique opportunity to bring people like Dr. Kleber and Dr. Gregg to campus and invite our community to learn from them," said Hannah Curreri (Class of 2024, 2025), outreach programs marketing and events coordinator for MSU's Office of Alumni Relations & Development. "It's pretty special to have these conversations happening right here at Morehead State, especially as we celebrate such an important milestone in our country's history. I think these events are a great reminder that history isn't just something we read about. It's something we can continue to learn from and talk about together."
