About the Summer Arts Academy

The Summer Arts Academy is an overnight summer camp offering five full days of activities, including individual and group instruction in a chosen area. This is an opportunity for students to do a deep dive into an area of their interest that they may not have the opportunity to do during the regular school year.

WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT

Music

Music students will enjoy spending up to five to six hours daily with faculty in their respective areas. Students will participate in group instruction, private lessons and masterclasses throughout the week. Students will learn specific techniques to take with them, improving their musicianship.

Music students will select two (2) electives during registration/check-in on Sunday, June 15th.

DESCRIPTION OF ELECTIVES

  • Music Technology: Students will enjoy getting hands-on experience with music creation and notation software such as Garage Band, Finale, and Sibelius and will explore how to use a soundboard to produce live audio
  • Choir: Students will have the opportunity to explore their vocal capabilities with others in this vocal ensemble.
  • Dalcroze Eurhythmics: This is a process for awakening, developing and refining innate musicality through the rhythmic movement of the body, air training and improvisation.
  • Jazz Improvisation: This elective focuses on the foundations of jazz improvisation, introducing students to the wide world of jazz in a large-group setting. All skill levels and instruments (including voice) are welcome.
  • Conducting: This elective introduces students to basic instrumental conducting. The student will practice conducting in front of the ensemble during the week.

ART & DESIGN

Theatre students will get hands-on experience in various types of creating visual art, both physical and digital.

THEATRE

Theatre students will engage in the study of acting from both aesthetic and practical viewpoints. Through fundamental techniques associated with the acting process, students will discover methodologies that will prove beneficial in developing their craft.

WRITING & MEDIA

Explorations in creative writing and convergent media will lead to individual multi-genre passion projects. Students who enroll in Writing and Media will have the unique opportunity to explore a variety of media to tell their story and share it with an authentic audience, write and record radio stories and learn about podcasting.
