Opening Day 2025

Arrival & Check-In at the Rocky Adkins Dining Commons

8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Eastern). Please plan to arrive as close to your arrival time as possible to ensure traffic flows smoothly.

Last names starting with:

• A - D Beginning at 8:30 a.m.
• E - L Beginning at 9:15 a.m.
• M - R Beginning at 10:00 a.m.
• S - Z Beginning at 10:45 a.m.

Families should park in the parking garage beside the Rocky Adkins Dining Commons (please refer to the campus map). Signs and GSP staff will help direct you. Please do not unpack your car until after you complete the check-in process. GSP-Morehead State staff will guide you through the check-in process, and you will receive information about scholar living arrangements. The residence halls are within walking distance of check-in.

Move-In Process – Mignon Complex

After check-in, scholars will walk from the Rocky Adkins Dining Commons to their residence hall. There, they will meet their Resident Advisor (RA) and receive their keys and ID. The RA will provide a special permit in the hall if families need to move their car closer to drop off a refrigerator. Morehead State University allows two refrigerators per 4-person suite.

Lunch

Lunch is not available on campus for scholars and their families. Numerous dining and shopping options are close to the Morehead State University campus.

After Move-In

• 12-1:45 p.m.: Free time for off-campus lunch and shopping
• 2-3:30 p.m.: Scholar Hall Meetings at Assigned Residence Halls
  • Scholars return to their residence halls for hall meetings. This meeting is for scholars only. Family members are welcome to use this time to make their way to the Button Auditorium (parking available behind the Adron Doran University Center) and attend the optional faculty meet and greet.
  • **Please note the next meetings are in a different location from check-in.**
• 2:15-2:45 p.m. Faculty Meet and Greet with Families (optional), Button Drill Room in Button Auditorium
  • Focus Area faculty will be available during this time to meet with families and answer any questions.
• 2:45-3:30 p.m. Informational Meeting for Families, Button Auditorium
  • This is an opportunity for families to learn more about the GSP from our Executive Director, Jen Price, and ask questions about the program or campus.
• 3:30-4:30 p.m. Opening Ceremony, Button Auditorium
  • The official opening of the 2025 GSP-Morehead campus will include an introduction of faculty and staff and a celebration with Governor's Scholars before families depart.
• 4:30-5 p.m. Community Meeting for 2025 Governor’s Scholars, Button Auditorium
  • After saying “see you later” to their families, Governor’s Scholars will participate in their first GSP-Morehead community meeting.
  • After the community meeting, scholars will tour the campus and have dinner with their Focus Area at the Rocky Adkins Dining Commons.

Additional Information

• Mementos: GSP merchandise will be sold during Opening Day. We accept cash, checks, and credit/debit card payments on-site. Additionally, items may be purchased online or by calling our Frankfort office at 502-209-4420. Opportunities will also be available during the summer for scholars to purchase mementos on campus.
• Family Day: Saturday, June 28, is set aside for families to take scholars off campus for the day. Scholars may leave with their families from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. that day. Requests to keep scholars overnight will not be honored.
• Closing Day: We will update the information about Closing Day (Friday, July 18) as we get closer to the date. We will have an in-person ceremony that morning.
