SOAR
Student Orientation, Advising & Registration
SOAR is the time to sign up for classes and prepare for your first semester at MSU. It is a one-day session that includes class registration, academic advisor meetings, and the chance to connect with students and employees. SOAR sessions are aimed at new freshmen or transfer students enrolling for the fall semester and run from April through July.
At SOAR, we will answer your questions about academic programs, dining plans, financial aid, housing and scholarships.

Orientation Leaders
Abbi Borders, a junior Business Marketing major, is building strong leadership experience alongside her academic studies. Originally from Catlettsburg, she serves as secretary of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and is an executive board member of the Herron Leadership Organization.
Through these roles, Borders is developing the communication, organization and professional skills that will support her future business career.
Liv Hamilton, a senior Strategic Communications major, has made the most of her college experience through deep campus involvement. A native of Morehead, Hamilton has participated in nine student organizations during her time at MSU and has held executive board positions in three of them.
Her extensive leadership and engagement reflect a strong commitment to campus life and have helped her build valuable skills in communication, teamwork and organization.
Jillian Hammes, a junior Biomedical Science major, is committed to both academic excellence and service. Hailing from Springfield, she is a member of the University’s Honors Program, where she continues to challenge herself academically.
Outside the classroom, Hammes volunteers with the Red Cross and UK St. Claire, gaining hands-on experience while making a meaningful impact in her community.
Ava Hines, a junior Nursing major, is preparing for a career dedicated to patient care and service. Originally from Carlisle, she is also an active member of Chi Omega, where she builds strong connections and leadership skills through campus involvement.
Hines combines her academic focus with a commitment to community, reflecting the values of compassion and collaboration central to the nursing profession.
Faith Layne, a senior Business Marketing major, is preparing to enter the professional world with a strong foundation in business strategy and communication.
A native of Olive Hill, Layne brings a unique perspective shaped by her close-knit background—she’s also a twin! Her time at MSU has helped her develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s competitive business environment.
Jack Layne, a senior Mechanical Engineering major, is developing the technical skills and problem-solving mindset needed for a career in engineering.
Hailing from Olive Hill, Layne is part of a close-knit family—he’s also a twin! Through his studies at MSU, he is gaining hands-on experience and practical knowledge that prepare him to design, build and innovate in a variety of engineering fields.
Leah Mays, a senior Biomedical Science major, is combining academic rigor with meaningful campus involvement. Originally from Olive Hill, she works in both Housing and Admissions, supporting and guiding fellow students throughout their college experience.
Mays is also an active sister of Gamma Phi Beta, where she continues to build leadership skills and strong connections within the campus community.
Izzy Petronella, a senior Strategic Communications major, is a dedicated campus leader passionate about connecting and empowering others. A native of Morehead, she serves as Panhellenic President, leading and representing the University’s sorority community.
Through her academic work and leadership role, Petronella continues to develop strong communication and organizational skills that prepare her for success after graduation.
Benjamin Piscopink, a senior Strategic Communications major, is actively engaged in campus life while preparing for a career in communication. Originally from Ripley, Ohio, he is a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, recognizing his leadership and involvement within the Greek community.
Through these experiences, Piscopink continues to develop strong interpersonal and leadership skills that will support his future professional goals.
Raelan Rose, a sophomore Nursing major, is beginning her journey toward a career in healthcare with a focus on compassion and service. A native of Campton, she is also an active member of Delta Gamma, where she builds meaningful connections and engages in campus life.
Rose is developing both the academic foundation and interpersonal skills essential for success in the nursing field.
Madison Russell, a senior Special Education LBD (P–5) major, is preparing to make a meaningful impact in the classroom. Originally from Ludlow, she is an active sister of Delta Zeta and serves as a campus tour guide, helping welcome and inspire future Eagles.
Through her academic training and campus involvement, Russell is building the skills and passion needed to support and advocate for students with diverse learning needs.
Carson Salyers, a senior Special Education major, is dedicated to making a difference in students' lives through inclusive education. Originally from Ashland, he is involved in several education-focused organizations that have helped him grow both personally and professionally.
Salyers values MSU’s hometown feel, which has provided him with a strong sense of belonging and comfort throughout his college experience.
Jordan Swartz, a junior Radiology major, is building the technical knowledge and clinical skills needed for a career in medical imaging. Originally from Owingsville, she is an active member of ARST and Chi Beta Gamma within the MSU Radiology program.
Through her academic work and involvement, Swartz is gaining valuable experience and preparing to make an impact in the healthcare field.
Rachel Whelan, a junior Health Promotion major, is passionate about supporting wellness and healthy lifestyles within her community. A lifelong resident of Morehead, she brings a deep connection to the area into her studies and future career goals.
Through her time at MSU, Whelan is building the knowledge and skills needed to promote health, prevention and well-being both locally and beyond.
Registration
When registering for SOAR online, you must select a major, undecided area of interest, or undecided. If you need help, the advisors listed below can assist.

Who can participate?
You must be accepted to MSU before registering to attend a SOAR program. If you have questions regarding your admission status, please contact the Office of Enrollment Services at 606-783-2000 or admissions@moreheadstate.edu.
To provide the best service, there are a limited number of spaces for each program. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
