Morehead State launches Beaker Chat to enhance student support

Morehead State University is introducing a new tool designed to help students get answers, stay informed and connect with the resources they need to succeed.

Today, MSU launched Beaker Chat, a text-based student engagement platform powered by EdSights. It provides automated responses to common questions and helps connect students with resources and support services across campus. The initiative is part of the University's ongoing commitment to student success, retention and engagement.

Beaker Chat will communicate with students through text messages, providing reminders about important deadlines, campus resources and academic milestones. Students can also ask questions and receive guidance on topics ranging from registration and financial aid to campus involvement and student support services.

Beaker Chat is designed to work alongside personalized support from MSU faculty and staff. When students need additional assistance, University staff can review conversations, respond directly and help connect students with the appropriate resources.

"Beaker Chat is an SMS texting tool that will check in with our students and provide resources for questions they may have. We are bringing Beaker to life as a way for us to better support our students, answer their questions, and communicate important information throughout the school year," said Michelle Barber (Class of 2005, 2010), MSU's director of retention. "We are so excited to provide this additional layer of engagement for our students."

The text-messaging platform allows MSU to identify student needs and offer support before challenges become barriers to success. By using a communication method students use daily, Beaker Chat can help ensure students receive timely information and know where to turn when questions arise.

Student support remains at the center of this new initiative. As the University continues to invest in innovative approaches to student success, Beaker Chat represents another way MSU is meeting students where they are, providing support, encouragement and connections that help them stay on track toward graduation.

Students retain control over their participation in Beaker Chat. They can choose how they engage with messages and resources and opt out at any time.
