SGA congress Composition & Committees

Congress Composition

The Morehead State University Student Government Association Congress is comprised of 34 total members. They are listed as follows:

  • At Large-Representative: 14 at-large positions representing all students of Morehead State University.
  • Freshmen Class Representative: Two positions representing the freshmen class that is responsible for serving as the voice for all students classified as a freshman by credit hours of 29 or below.
  • Sophomore Class Representative: Two positions representing the sophomore class that is responsible for serving as the voice for all students classified as Sophomores by credit hours of 30-59.
  • Junior Class Representative: Two positions representing the Junior class that is responsible for serving as the voice for all students classified as Juniors by credit hours of 60-89.
  • Senior Class Representative: Two positions representing the Senior class that is responsible for serving as the voice for all students classified as Seniors by credit hours of 90 and above.
  • Graduate Student Representative: One position representing all graduate students enrolled in graduate programs. This is appointed by the SGA President.
  • Commuter Student Representative: One position representing all commuter students responsible for representing all commuter students that are not living in University Housing.
  • Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science Representative: One position representing the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences representing all students with an academic program within this college. This seat requires the candidate to be currently enrolled in an academic program within the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • College of Education Representative: One position representing the College of Education representing all students with an academic program within this college. This seat requires the candidate to be currently enrolled in an academic program within the College of Education.
  • College of Science Representative: One position representing the College of Science representing all students with an academic program within this college. This seat requires the candidate to be currently enrolled in an academic program within the College of Science.
  • Elmer R. Smith College of Business and Technology Representative: One position representing the Elmer R. Smith College of Business and Technology representing all students with an academic program within this college. This seat requires the candidate to be currently enrolled in an academic program within the Elmer R. Smith College of Business and Technology.
  • International Student Representative: One International position representing all students defined as non-American.
  • Student Athlete Representative: One Student Athlete position representing all students participating in a sport through the Athletics Department sanctioned by the NCAA or Pioneer Football League.
  • RHA/RA Representative: One RHA/RA position by a student that holds an executive position in Residence Hall Association or serves as a Resident Advisor. This is appointed by the SGA President.
  • Craft Academy Representative: One Craft Academy position as an elected official elected by the student body of Craft Academy.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Representative: One position representing minority students and groups on campus while further promoting equity efforts.
  • Veteran's Representative: One position representing the interests of students who have current or past military experience.

Representative DUTIES

Each prepresentative is required to fulfill the following:

  • Attend the SGA Retreat held the Wednesday after the elections.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled SGA meetings each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in ADUC 329, beginning the week after the SGA Retreat.
  • Actively serve on an SGA standing committee (see committees below) and fully participate in the committee work, including all programs sponsored by said committee.
  • Actively participate in weekly meetings by respectfully voicing concerns, issues, or questions about bills, amendments, and resolutions on the floor.
  • Represent your elected constituency by being available for those students to contact you with concerns, issues and questions. Representatives are also responsible for respectfully voicing those concerns, issues and questions in meetings or to the appropriate Executive Board member and updating the concerned constituent on the outcome of the matter.

Participate in promoting SGA to your peers via social media, tabling, handing out flyers, word of mouth, etc.


SGA STANDING COMMITTEES

CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE

This committee develops and manages civic engagement efforts, educational programming, philanthropic programming (e.g., Iron Eagle Challenge) and participation in the campus community.  The Campus Involvement Committee is active in planning and executing programs as well as collaborating with other groups, such as the Campus Activities Board, to offer activities.

Internal affairs COMMITTEE

Replace the current text under “Finance Committee” with “This committee is designed to research policies and initiate plans to enhance the quality of student life while serving as a liaison to university departments. This committee also evaluates applications for Funding Packets; finds innovative ways to partner with on and off-campus entities; maintains a regularly updated list of Morehead businesses that offer student discounts or accept Beaker Bucks as a form of payment; and oversees the organizations budget as a whole when necessary.

PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

This committee promotes, publicizes information and maintains social media accounts affiliated with SGA in a professional and positive manner. The Public Relations Committee chooses promotional items that are used at various events throughout the year to promote SGA and support other areas of campus.

 


ADHOC COMMITTEES

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

This committee strives to make sure every student's voice is heard, no matter their race, ethnicity, or background. They are determined to make MSU a better place and a home for all.

CONSTITUTION & BYLAWS

This committee is composed of all three branches of SGA with the responsibility of revising and improving the governing documents of our organization.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

This committee is responsible for recognizing and planning potential campus improvements that would further enhance the student experience at Morehead State University. The committee is open to all SGA members.
