Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

Carnegie logoMSU is recognized as a community-engaged institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. This recognition, first received in 2006 and reaffirmed in both 2015 and 2026, reflects our ongoing commitment to community engagement.

Partnerships between MSU and community groups improve teaching, learning, and scholarship while preparing students to be responsible citizens. They also help solve social problems, making a positive difference in society.

What it means for students

Throughout the academic career, students can get involved in campus-community partnerships that meet the needs of the region. From volunteering in a student organization to completing a service learning project, students give back to the community and develop critical thinking, teamwork skills and professionalism.

future plans for community engagement

Morehead State University will maintain its Carnegie Community Engagement Classification through 2032, reflecting our ongoing commitment to working alongside our communities. This recognition is built on strong partnerships that support shared goals, student learning, and positive community outcomes. We invite community organizations, businesses, schools, and agencies to continue existing partnerships—or to begin new ones—as we work together to address community needs and create lasting impact.
