Faculty Course Migration Process

How migration requests work

Faculty may submit a migration request form to have eligible Blackboard courses copied into Canvas.

Important notes

• Only courses taught between Spring 2025 and Winter 2025 are eligible for the official migration process. This helps prioritize courses that are most likely to be taught during the Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 transition period.
• Migration copies content only; instructors must review all materials before teaching.
• Some tools, links, question types, and publisher integrations may require updates after migration.
• Course quality review remains the instructor’s responsibility.
• Only a limited number of courses will be migrated from Blackboard to Canvas.
• Migration will be prioritized for faculty teaching between the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 terms.
• Only faculty who submit a migration request will have their courses copied into Canvas.
• It is also possible to manually migrate courses from Blackboard to Canvas. Guidance on this process will be provided by Summer 2026.
• Blackboard courses that use publisher content (such as lessons, tests, or assignments) should not be migrated. These courses should be rebuilt in Canvas to ensure that publisher materials function correctly.

Expected processing timeline

Migration requests will be processed in batches over several months. Once a request is submitted, please allow approximately 1–2 weeks for the course to be copied.
