Canvas Migration Timeline
Morehead State University is transitioning from Blackboard to Canvas as the university's learning management system. The transition is being implemented in phases to allow time for training, course preparation, and system configuration. This timeline is tentative and may be adjusted as the Canvas transition progresses.
- Canvas access is provided to faculty and staff.
- Instructor sandbox courses are available for exploration and training.
- Self-paced training and live professional learning sessions begin.
- Faculty may begin familiarizing themselves with Canvas tools and features.
- Faculty may request migration of Blackboard courses into Canvas.
- Migrated courses should be reviewed and adjusted before being used for teaching.
- The MSU Canvas course template will be released to support a consistent course structure.
- Additional training sessions and support opportunities will continue.
- Blackboard and Canvas are both available for course delivery during Fall 2026.
- Faculty should continue preparing and migrating courses for the transition to Canvas.
- Canvas training, course migration assistance, and faculty support will continue throughout the semester.
- Beginning with the Winter 2026 term, Canvas will be the learning management system for MSU course delivery.
- Faculty and students will access Winter 2026 and future courses through Canvas.
- Ongoing Canvas training and support will continue.
- Beginning January 1, 2027, Blackboard will remain available in a read-only state.
- Faculty will be able to access Blackboard to reference and retrieve existing course content.
- Blackboard read-only access will remain available through June 2027.
