Canvas Training Opportunities

Morehead State University is offering a series of live virtual training sessions led by a Canvas specialist from Instructure. These sessions will help faculty learn how to build and teach courses in Canvas. Each session focuses on a specific tool or teaching strategy to support effective course design and instruction in the new learning management system.

Faculty may attend any sessions that match their needs. Seating is limited, and registration is first-come, first-served. Sessions will be recorded for those who are unable to attend live.

Session Descriptions

An introduction to the Canvas environment covering login, global navigation, account setup, communication tools, and available support resources.

Learn how to build course content using Canvas’s Rich Content Editor, including creating pages and adding links, images, media, documents, and accessible formatting.

This session focuses on organizing course materials using Modules to structure content, guide student progress, and control access to learning activities.

Learn how to create and manage assignments in Canvas, including using rubrics and tools that streamline grading and course workflow.

Explore how to use Canvas Discussions to support student engagement, including features of the redesigned discussion interface.

This session introduces Canvas New Quizzes and Item Banks, demonstrating how to build assessments, manage question banks, and configure quiz settings.

Learn how to use the Canvas Gradebook and SpeedGrader to evaluate student work, provide feedback, and apply rubrics efficiently.

This session explores best practices for designing effective and well-structured Canvas courses that support student learning and navigation.

Learn practical strategies for transitioning courses from Blackboard to Canvas, including tips for reviewing migrated content and adapting course structure.

Self-Paced Training

Several self-paced training resources are available directly inside Canvas. These courses and resources will appear automatically once you log in.

Faculty and instructors will see a course titled “Growing with Canvas (Teacher Training)” in their Canvas Courses list.

This course provides guided instruction on building courses, managing content, using the Canvas gradebook, and preparing to teach in Canvas.

Additional training resources are available through the Training Services Portal, located in the Help menu in the left-side Canvas navigation.

The portal provides access to additional tutorials, guides, and Canvas training materials.

Students will see a course titled “Passport to Canvas (Student Training)” in their Courses list.

This course introduces students to navigating Canvas, submitting assignments, participating in discussions, and managing course notifications.
