Learn by doing in our state-of-the-art facilities and through clinical placements in real-world medical settings. You'll gain the knowledge to be a competent and compassionate respiratory therapist.

What You Can Do with a respiratory care Degree

You’ll be ready to take the National Board for Respiratory Care registration exam, which qualifies you to work in hospitals, nursing homes, physician’s offices, home health agencies, and specialized care hospitals. You’ll also learn important skills like speaking and writing clearly, working well with others, thinking critically, and being professional.

What Makes Morehead State’s Program different

Morehead State, Maysville Community and Technical College and Ashland Community and Technical College formed the Northeast Kentucky Consortium for Respiratory Care. The resources of member institutions are combined and made available to students at MSU. General education courses may be taken at any member institution, and respiratory care courses will be taken at the Rowan County campus of Maysville Community and Technical College.

Admission to the respiratory care program

The Respiratory Care program has a selective admission procedure separate from the admission procedure for Morehead State. Enrollment in the program is limited. Students seeking admission must apply by Nov. 15 of each year. The program begins in the spring semester each year. 

Admission Criteria

Completion of the following courses with a grade of "C" or better:

  • BIOL 234: Human Anatomy
  • MATH 135: Math for Technical Students
  • FYS 101:  First-Year Seminar
  • COMS 108: Fundamentals of Speech Communication
  • ENG 100: Writing I

Students desiring admission must submit the following application materials by Nov. 15:

  • Application for admission to the college/university.
  • Respiratory Care Program Admission Application form.
  • ACT scores or equivalent.
  • Official high school transcript or GED certificate.
  • Official transcripts of all post-secondary coursework.

Respiratory Care Accreditation

Our program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
