FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
INTERNAL FUNDING
Morehead State University supports the research endeavors of its faculty and staff by offering internal funding opportunities:
- The Research and Creative Productions Committee - A pool of funds administered by the University Research and Creative Productions Committee is available annually to support small research and/or creative production projects of faculty up to $5,000. Proposals are due in October each year for one-year projects beginning in January.
- Research and Creative Productions Committee Summer Fellowships - A pool of funds administered by the University Research and Creative Productions Committee is available annually to provide summer salary support of $5,000 for faculty engaged in research and/or creative production projects. Applications are due in November each year for projects the following summer.
EXTERNAL FUNDING
SPONSORED PROGRAMS INFORMATION NETWORK (SPIN)
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) subscribes to the Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN), a valuable resource available to assist faculty and staff in identifying external funding sources appropriate for their projects.
The network, developed by InfoEd International, includes three separate features geared toward helping both MSU faculty and RSP staff search for external funding and collaborate with researchers across the globe:
- SPIN - A searchable database of funding opportunities from current national and international government and private funding sources, including fellowships, research grants, publication support, curriculum development, and more. SPIN can be used to conduct manual searches of funding opportunities and has an advanced search tool allowing users to identify funding by specific scientific keywords, grant types, and sponsors.
- SMARTS (SPIN Matching and Research Transmittal Service) - An automated alert system that uses both the GENIUS profiles and SPIN database to notify investigators of relevant new programs that match their profiles. SMARTS sends relevant funding opportunities to users via daily e-mail reports (when there are relevant matches) in either summary or full program format.
ORSP will work individually with faculty and staff to develop customized SPIN searches and profiles to assist in identifying funding opportunities for their research interests.
GRANTS.GOV
Grants.gov is a federally managed central clearinghouse for information on more than 1,000 grant programs from 26 federal grant-making agencies. The website allows users to search for grant opportunities by agency, keywords, or specific opportunities. ORSP acts as the authorized organizational representative for all proposals submitted from the University through Grants.gov.
