Eagle Scholars Classes
The Eagle Scholars Program offers nearly 50 different classes for dual-credit. You can complete core college courses and some specialized courses to give you a headstart on your college degree while completing your high school diploma.
"I can attest to the value of these courses. Not only have these students earned significant college credits by the time they graduate high school, but they also gain valuable insight into college-level expectations and coursework."
Scott Osborn (MSU Class of 1999)
Eagle Scholar English Instructor

Class Considerations
You can choose classes that you're interested in and courses to prepare you for your major. Students are advised to talk with an academic advisor to determine the best classes to take.
We recommend that students consider classes in MSU's general education program. General education classes are foundational courses that meet degree requirements for every major offered at MSU.
General education provides a foundation of knowledge and skills vital for all students. These include a college success class and basic classes in communication, reasoning, natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and humanities. These classes teach essential skills such as critical thinking, cultural understanding, reasoning and communication skills.
MSU requires every bachelor's degree-seeking student to complete 36 hours of general education classes. Of these, 18 hours are core classes everyone takes, no matter their major:
- First Year Seminar
- Writing I
- Writing II
- Oral Communication
- A general education math course (determined based on the student's major)
- A senior capstone course
The other required 18 hours are classes chosen by the student. They are from specific categories, including humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and natural sciences.
Core General Education Classes
We recommend that you take general education core classes in writing, oral communication and quantitative reasoning. They cover skills critical for other classes you will take at MSU. In addition, these core classes are transferable to other public colleges or universities in Kentucky.
Not all general education classes are offered at every location.
When choosing a quantitative reasoning class, you will need to select the class based on the Mathematics Pathway Guide since it is the class that best fits the requirements of your future major. If you take a different one, you may not be able to use the class in your degree requirements later.
If you need assistance making your quantitative reasoning course selection, please get in touch with us for guidance.
