Each year Big Sandy Area Community Action Program (BSACAP) distributes over $7,000 in scholarships to students in the Floyd, Johnson, Martin, Magoffin, and Pike County areas. The nonprofit organization will offer ten $500 academic scholarships and one $2,000 Eula Hall Community Advocate Scholarship. Scholarships are funded through the Community Service Block Grant.

The Lexington Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association Scholarship will support a junior or senior level baccalaureate nursing student or any undergraduate nursing student enrolled in a program leading to a BSN, e.g. RN-BSN, LPN-BSN, ABSN, etc. The recipient must be an individual who truly represents a commitment to service.
Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Applications are accepted Sept. 1 to midnight, Nov. 1, 2021 only.
Instructions:
- Students eligible for the scholarship must be from a racial/ethnic group underrepresented in the health professions according to HRSA:
- American Indian or Alaska Native
- Black or African American
- Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
- Hispanic
- GPA 3.0 and be in good academic standing at the time of the application.
- The candidate must be currently enrolled in a Kentucky nursing school (pre-nursing students are not eligible to apply).
- Submit documents and application.
Applicants Must Provide:
- Transcript(s) from an accredited School of Nursing (unofficial acceptable, official transcript required if awarded).
- A resume that includes full contact information and inclusion of activities to support scholarship criteria.
- Maximum 1,000-word essay answering the question, “What is nursing’s role in addressing health inequities and/or fostering social justice for people of color?” The essay must include the applicant’s individual contributions to addressing the selected issue. a. Essay format: Times New Romans 11 point; 1-inch margins on all sides; double spaced
- Optional items not exceeding two pages: It is preferred that the following activities are included on the resume; however, applications may provide support documentation of the following activities:
- Leadership positions or service leadership, i.e., ministry activities, athletic leadership i.e., team captain, event organizer, etc.
- Community involvement, e.g., volunteer work in any organization, etc.
- Campus involvement, e.g., mentoring, student council, sororities, participation in college-wide events, etc.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

The Stewart Family Scholarship provides higher education scholarship awards to improve the status of life for local students and others. The award can be used with other scholarships or financial awards to defray the cost of full-time tuition, fees, and/or books. Selection is competitive and is based on academic performance, leadership abilities, as well as contributions to the school and community. Awards are made without regard to financial status, race, creed, religious preference or sex. Priority will be given to applicants residing within the Kentucky counties of Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence, as well as Scioto County, Ohio. Others with educational needs will be considered outside of the priority areas. All recipients must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum ACT score of 17 or SAT score of 1190. All recipients must demonstrate outstanding character as evidenced by work ethic and service to others.
