Morehead State Master of Music program earns OnlineU ranking for affordability
Morehead State University music program, its online learning options and its dedication to affordability were all recently recognized on a national level.
OnlineU, a website that comprehensively ranks and reviews online college degree programs, recently named MSU one of the most affordable schools to obtain an online Master of Music degree in 2026.
MSU offers a Master of Music – Performance in a hybrid learning format and a Master of Music – Music Education that can be completed entirely online.
The Master of Music – Music Education degree program seeks to develop individual talents, interests, and philosophies to prepare students for a career as a music teacher in Kentucky’s public and private schools.
Dr. David W. Oyen, professor of music and chair of the Department of Music & Theatre, said MSU’s graduation tuition rate of $573 per credit hour for both in-state and out-of-state students makes it one of the lowest among Kentucky public universities offering a Master of Music degree.
“MSU has taken pains to keep tuition rates low, and it pays off for our Master of Music – Music Education students,” Oyen said.
The cost of the MSU’s Master of Music – Music Education program provides an affordable way for students to learn from experienced faculty and complete a degree accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Oyen said he is pleased that a resource like OnlineU, which ranks programs specifically on tuition cost, return on investment and student feedback, is recognizing MSU for its high-quality music programs and its dedication to making education affordable.
“This award helps lend visibility to the music programs to a community of prospective graduate students who may not have been aware of us if they are outside the state of Kentucky or the surrounding region, offering us the potential to grow further and serve audiences we have not traditionally served,” Oyen said.
