Green Buildings
Several buildings across campus have been equipped with sustainable features and technology.
ADUC Expansion
The expansion to ADUC includes more energy-efficient dining, offices, conference spaces and meeting rooms.
The Rock & Parking Garage
This dining hall, located on the east side of campus, was designed with features that reduce waste and increase energy efficiency, while providing healthy food options to students. The adjacent parking garage reduces parking congestion and pavement and stormwater runoff on campus.
Andrews Hall
Completed in 2016, this residence hall features suite-style rooms and student study/meeting areas, incorporating many sustainable design elements to enhance energy efficiency and reduce waste.
Recreation & Wellness Center
The Rec Center was awarded LEED Gold in July 2011 and became the first LEED-certified recreation center in Kentucky, as well as the first LEED building on MSU's campus. Features include geothermal heating and cooling systems, a geothermal well used to heat the swimming pool, natural daylighting, motion sensor controls, water catchment systems, and CO2 sensors to determine the amount of fresh air to bring into the building.
Center of Health Education and Research (CHER) & Space Science Building
Both of these buildings were built to LEED standards.
CURRENT CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
MSU is currently constructing several new buildings, including a Science & Engineering Technology Building (completion: Spring 2027), a new Multi-Disciplinary Building (completion: Spring 2028), and new Residence Halls (Prefontaine Hall & Normal Hall). The new plans include several features that will lead to energy cost savings and increased sustainability. MSU is seeking LEED certification for these new building projects. The new buildings will replace many older buildings that currently use more energy and resources and have outlived their useful life. The older buildings being replaced will be demolished and replaced with more sustainable projects or green spaces.
