Grounds
MSU's grounds management practices prioritize sustainability and conservation.
Tree Campus USA
MSU utilizes best management practices in our tree care plan. Our Campus Tree Replacement Initiative includes identifying trees on campus that are weather and pest-damaged, dead, or causing problems around vehicle and pedestrian areas, etc. We plan to remove several damaged and problematic trees over the next few years in select regions and replace each of them with newly planted trees, either in the same general area or in another location where they may be better suited on campus.
Eagle Lake
MSU's Eagle Lake is surrounded by 645 acres of forested land. The area offers students outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking trails, student camping areas, mountain bike trails, and canoeing and kayaking.
Outdoor Adventures
MSU Outdoor Adventures coordinates numerous hiking, climbing, paddling, and camping trips for students and rents outdoor equipment to them. It also has an outdoor challenge course.
MSU Farm
MSU Farm produces flowers and plants for campus landscaping. The farm composts organic matter and utilizes the compost to fertilize and improve the soil for crops and campus grounds.
Pest Management
Integrated pest management is practiced throughout the campus. Natural pest prevention strategies are prioritized, and chemical pesticides are used only as a last resort after other options have been exhausted.
Sonny Allen Baseball Field
The baseball field incorporated 1600 pounds of biochar in 2015, which helps offset our carbon footprint.
Eagle Trace Golf Course
The golf course has replaced all turf with environmentally friendly Zoysia grass, helping reduce water consumption and chemical usage that is usually required to maintain golf greens.
