University Honors
Formal recognition is given to two-year and four-year graduates who have achieved academic excellence. Baccalaureate degree recipients must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at MSU with an institutional GPA of 3.5 or higher. Associate degree recipients must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at MSU with an institutional GPA of 3.6 or higher. Only work completed at MSU is used to compute GPA.
Latin Honors will be printed on the student's diploma and official transcript. Postbaccalaureate, Master's, Ed.S., and Ed.D. students are not awarded Latin honors.
Undergraduate students earning Latin Honors wear a gold cord at commencement. Honors acknowledged during the commencement ceremony do not include coursework from the final semester and are therefore considered unofficial. Official university honors will be noted on the diploma, and the official transcript will reflect the grades from the student’s final semester.
Students will receive details through their MSU email about the time and location to pick up their complimentary honor cord. Honor cords are only distributed to those students participating in the ceremony. If a student is not participating in the ceremony and has earned honors, the appropriate honors will be noted on the student's official transcript and diploma.
