21st Century Center for Manufacturing Systems
Morehead State University established the 21st Century Center for Manufacturing Systems. This facility helps meet the employment challenges of the region.
"The 21st Century Center for Manufacturing Systems has enhanced our potential to teach cutting-edge technologies, conduct applied research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and aid technology transfer from the University to industries, which will result in economic development in the region," said Dr. Ahmad Zargari, dean of the College of Science.
The University has a committed industrial advisory board composed of employers with a demonstrated need for qualified engineers and technologists. With their guidance, MSU is developing a new academic model that will support incorporating mechanical, electrical, computer, and control systems technology in product and process design. The new model will:
- Have a multidisciplinary curriculum based on systems design principles,
- Incorporate the 21st Century Center for Manufacturing Systems and
- Collaborate with regional industries.
The 21st Century Center for Manufacturing Systems represents MSU's growing commitment to creating new, innovative economies and opportunities throughout Eastern Kentucky. The center's overarching goal is to prepare students for 21st-century jobs by developing specialized interdisciplinary science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. There will be opportunities to work on applied engineering projects that integrate mechanical, electrical, computer and control system components. The result will be more skilled graduates. Many graduates will seek jobs within the region. This highly skilled workforce should attract new businesses to Eastern Kentucky and lead to future job creation.
