Building for the Future
MSU is building two new residence halls. Prefontaine Hall will open in Fall 2026, and another hall is in the planning phase and will open in 2027.
TRADITIONAL RESIDENCE HALL FEATURES
- Most rooms are double occupancy, meaning you'll be sharing a room with one other person.
- Floors are designated as single-sex living arrangements.
- Facilities staff ensure common areas such as lounges, kitchens, laundry rooms, and bathrooms are cleaned regularly.
- Most traditional halls have student staff (Resident Advisors) on every floor to ensure students have access to Housing staff.
- All mattresses are twin XL.
- All residence halls have free wireless internet.
TRADITIONAL RESIDENCE HALLS
- Craft Tower (primarily for Craft Academy for Excellence in Science & Mathematics students)
- Cartmell Hall (single occupancy upperclass rooms)
- Fields Hall (mixed upper-class and first-year Honors students)
- Grote-Thompson Hall (first-year living-learning communities)
SUITE-STYLE HALLS FEATURES
- Most rooms are 4-person suites, meaning you'll share a room with three others.
- Most floors are not a specific sex, but suites themselves are. In each suite, only same-sex roommates may live together.
- Facilities staff ensure common areas such as lounges, laundry rooms and kitchens are cleaned regularly.
- Each suite is equipped with an in-room bathroom. One that you're responsible for cleaning.
- Many suite-style halls have student staff (Resident Advisors) on every floor to ensure students can access housing staff.

- Andrews Hall (upperclassmen)
- East Mignon Hall (first-year students)
- Mignon Hall (first-year students)
- Mignon Tower (first-year students)
- Nunn Hall (upper-class students)
- West Mignon Hall (upper-class students)
APARTMENT-STYLE LIVING FEATURES
- It can be a studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartment, meaning it can accommodate one, two, or three people.
- Apartment communities and floors within them are not assigned to students of a specific sex, but each apartment can only be shared by roommates of the same sex.
- Each apartment has kitchen amenities, appliances, and a bathroom.
- Facilities staff ensure common areas such as lounges and laundry rooms are cleaned regularly.
- Apartment residency requires 45 completed credit hours and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
APARTMENT COMMUNITIES
HOUSING AT THE UNIVERSITY FARM
MSU offers housing to approved students at the University Farm (Lundergan and Padula halls) through a separate application and approval status. Students in appropriate majors interested in University Farm living arrangements should contact Farm Manager Michael Dement at 606-783-2802.
