Mission & Goals
The Volgenau College of Education (VCOE) empowers aspiring teachers, leaders, and counselors to shape the minds, classrooms, and communities of Kentuckians, the Appalachian region, and the nation.
Our undergraduate and graduate programs guide students toward mastery, inspire broad thinking, and model purpose-driven leadership. We believe in teaching through connection—offering mentorship and real-world connections. We value partnerships, academic excellence, and are driven by our commitment to preparing outstanding teachers, counselors, and educational leaders.

GOALS
- Enhance students’ essential skills so that they can connect learning experiences with practical application in schools, professional environments, and community contexts.
- Build, share, and sustain collaborative partnerships with P–12 schools, agencies, and community organizations to advance shared educational goals throughout the region.
- Actively and positively communicate the impact of the VCOE on communities, student and faculty engagement.
- Recognize and celebrate faculty, staff, students, and graduates who model purpose-driven instruction, service, and leadership.
